My constant inquiry about WHY led me to take up intensive training in the Neurodevelopmental treatment approach.
Children with Cerebral Palsy or other neuro motor impairment including developmental delay caused by genetic disorder, or birth related injuries show minimal diversities in the way they hold up with their bodies, the way they move & explore. Including children with Autism. They lack variety.
What we see across lifespan is the way they see, feel, perceive & build on early sensory motor experiences.
NDT taught me to look through the movement lens, sensory lens & most importantly helped me define the function for a child.
For instance, if a toddler needs to sit up in mom’s lap & play with toys using both hands, look for each & every system that contributes to this function of play which otherwise would look so obvious for typically developing children.
