Calicut workshop: Analysis of neuromotor impairments in children through NDT Perspective

March 4th-5th 2023

I earned my NDT certification in 2006. Ever since then my constant thirst in search of WHY and How can I serve my clients better went on growing.

During my journey of learning, I was blessed to have mentors who merged the science & art of therapy while planning interventions for the children.

After years of training & collective experiences, I feel grateful while imparting knowledge to upcoming therapists who are inclined to serve children with neurodiversity.

I have been teaching, and sharing knowledge through webinars, and workshops across my country.

I often sit back to try to critically analyze what’s my objective when I conduct such workshops. I get one answer that we need to understand why rather than looking for pre-cooked recipes. Because ready-made treatment strategies or answers come from that person’s individual experiences. And to evolve to a higher level we need to form new experiences that can serve as budling blocks for us.

During Post Pandemic, we were once again together at Calicut understanding children organized by childcare center PARROT.

India is such a diverse country, culturally, linguistically & socio-economically, that while applying any globally used approaches one needs to think about how to adapt to be suitable for our context & environment where the child would be functioning.

This Calicut workshop helped me to think in terms of the newer context & culture. family goals thought process of therapists.

We had a group of enthusiastic therapists who were working with passion to do the best they can for their children. I appreciate their quest towards learning new techniques or strategies or protocols. But at the same time, it’s important to understand how we can design a particular intervention technique. Because in my opinion, every child is different & unique the way he would learn or in the way his brain architecture is.

So, there can’t be one fixed protocol. This was an eye-opener moment for the group.

Think in terms of function & participation for the child than just mere milestones are the thought that we all carried in our hearts.
